Free AI Image Tool

Generate perfect negative prompts
instantly

Eliminate bad anatomy, artifacts, and unwanted elements from your AI images. Works with Stable Diffusion, SDXL, and more.

About this tool
Negative Prompt Generator

Generates a negative prompt that tells the AI what to exclude from your image โ€” eliminating bad anatomy, artifacts, blurry faces, and quality issues before they appear.

Works with Stable Diffusion, SDXL, ComfyUI, and Automatic1111. Limited support in Midjourney via --no.

Common problem terms
Quality issues
low quality, worst quality, lowres, jpeg artifacts, blurry, watermark
Anatomy problems
deformed, distorted, bad anatomy, extra limb, missing limb, mutation
Hand issues
extra fingers, fused fingers, too many fingers, bad hands
Face problems
blurry face, bad eyes, cross-eyed, asymmetric eyes
๐Ÿ’ก Always include quality terms
Add "low quality, worst quality, lowres" to every negative prompt as a baseline. This single addition improves output quality across all generations.
๐Ÿ’ก What is a Negative Prompt?

A negative prompt tells the AI what to exclude from your image โ€” like bad hands, blurry faces, or low quality artifacts. It works alongside your main prompt to dramatically improve results.

Understanding Negative Prompts in AI Image Generation

Negative prompts are one of the most powerful and underused tools in AI image generation. While your main prompt tells the AI what to create, the negative prompt tells it what to avoid โ€” and this dual instruction system gives you dramatically more control over the final output.

AI image models like Stable Diffusion work by sampling from a vast space of possible images. Your positive prompt guides the model toward a region of that space. Your negative prompt pushes it away from specific undesirable regions โ€” bad anatomy, low quality artifacts, unwanted styles, and compositional problems.

The result is a tighter, more controlled generation that consistently produces higher quality output with fewer failed attempts.

How Negative Prompts Work Technically

In diffusion-based image models like Stable Diffusion and SDXL, the generation process uses a technique called classifier-free guidance (CFG). During each denoising step, the model generates two predictions โ€” one conditioned on your positive prompt and one conditioned on your negative prompt. The final step moves away from the negative prediction and toward the positive prediction.

The CFG scale setting controls how strongly the model follows this guidance. Higher CFG values mean stronger adherence to both your positive and negative prompts โ€” though very high values can produce oversaturated, distorted results. A CFG scale between 7 and 12 is typically the most effective range for most generation tasks.

The Most Common Negative Prompt Problems

Bad Anatomy & Proportions

AI models frequently produce distorted body proportions, extra limbs, merged body parts, and incorrect anatomical relationships. This is one of the most common quality issues in AI image generation.

Negative prompt terms: deformed, distorted, disfigured, bad anatomy, wrong anatomy, extra limb, missing limb, floating limbs, disconnected limbs, mutation, mutated, ugly, disgusting, blurry, amputation

Hand and Finger Problems

Hands are notoriously difficult for AI image models. Extra fingers, fused fingers, impossible hand positions, and distorted proportions are extremely common problems, particularly with human subjects.

Negative prompt terms: extra fingers, fused fingers, too many fingers, bad hands, poorly drawn hands, malformed hands, mutated hands

Face and Eye Issues

Asymmetric eyes, blurry faces, distorted facial features, and unnatural expressions are common problems, particularly in portrait generation. The face is where quality issues are most immediately visible to viewers.

Negative prompt terms: blurry face, poorly drawn face, extra face, cloned face, cross-eyed, asymmetric eyes, bad eyes, ugly eyes

Image Quality Artifacts

Low resolution patches, JPEG compression artifacts, watermarks, text intrusions, and overexposed or underexposed areas are quality issues that can appear in AI generated images, particularly at lower guidance scales.

Negative prompt terms: low quality, worst quality, lowres, jpeg artifacts, watermark, text, signature, error, out of frame, cropped

Negative Prompts by AI Tool

Stable Diffusion & SDXL

Full negative prompt support. Paste directly into the Negative Prompt field. SDXL responds particularly well to quality-focused negative prompts. Supports weighted terms using parentheses.

ComfyUI & Automatic1111

Dedicated negative prompt input field. Supports attention weighting โ€” (term:1.5) increases weight, (term:0.5) decreases it. Highly customisable for advanced users.

Midjourney

Limited negative prompt support via the --no parameter. Add "--no hands, text, watermark" at the end of your prompt. Less precise than dedicated negative prompt systems.

DALL-E 3

Does not support traditional negative prompts. Instead, include exclusions in your main prompt: "...without any text, watermarks, or distorted anatomy."

Best Practices for Effective Negative Prompts

โœฆ
Always start with quality terms โ€” "low quality, worst quality, lowres" โ€” as a baseline negative prompt regardless of what you are generating.
โœฆ
For portraits and human subjects, always include hand and anatomy terms โ€” these are the most common failure points in human figure generation.
โœฆ
Tailor your negative prompt to the specific subject. A landscape prompt needs different negative terms than a portrait โ€” focus on what is most likely to go wrong for your specific content type.
โœฆ
Do not include words in the negative prompt that you want to appear in the image. If you say "no blur" in the negative prompt, you might affect intentional depth of field blur on your subject.

Frequently asked questions

What is a negative prompt?

A negative prompt tells the AI what NOT to include in the image โ€” helping eliminate bad anatomy, extra fingers, blurry faces, artifacts, and low quality results.

Where do I paste the negative prompt?

In Stable Diffusion and SDXL, there is a dedicated Negative Prompt input field below the main prompt box. In Midjourney, add it after your main prompt with the --no parameter.

Will this fix bad hands and fingers?

Yes โ€” select Hands focus and the tool generates specific negative prompts targeting extra fingers, fused hands, and distorted hand anatomy.

Is this free?

Yes, completely free. No account or sign-up needed.

How to use
1
Enter your main prompt
Type what you are generating โ€” the negative prompt is tailored based on your subject and content type.
2
Select your AI tool
Choose Stable Diffusion XL, SD 1.5, Midjourney, or DALL-E 3. Each tool uses negative prompts differently.
3
Choose what to fix
Select All Issues, or focus on Anatomy, Face & Eyes, Hands, or Quality depending on your specific problem.
4
Generate & copy
Copy the negative prompt and paste it into the Negative Prompt field in your image tool โ€” not the main prompt field.
5
Adjust CFG scale
Set CFG between 7-9 for the best balance of prompt adherence and image quality.
Where to paste
Stable Diffusion / SDXL
Paste into the "Negative Prompt" field below the main prompt box.
ComfyUI / A1111
Dedicated negative prompt node. Supports weighted terms (term:1.5).
Midjourney
Add --no at the end: --no hands, text, watermark
DALL-E 3
No dedicated field. Include exclusions in main prompt text instead.
